  When it comes to setting the tone of your wedding, choosing wedding stationery can be one of your most important choices. The wedding invitation is the first glimpse that your guests will get of your wedding style and theme. Use these tips to help choose the right style of wedding invitations for you. Contemporary Wedding Invitations If you're a modern bride planning a chic urban wedding, a contemporary style is the way to go. Although you're not requiring a black tie dress code, you expect your guests to clean up nice for your special event. Let guests know what to expect by having your invites printed with Ecru paper, gold filigree, or lace trim. Ecru alone is enough to tell your guests that this event may be the high-class party of the year. Choosing the right wedding invitation style is key to setting your wedding theme and letting your guests know what kind of event it will be.   To Send or Not to Send: Holiday Greeting Cards for Your Business

  As December approaches, business owners out there may be asking themselves the following question. Should we send out holiday greeting cards this year? Let's face it, it can be a big expense, and you may never really know how much it affects your business in the long run. If your business is service oriented, and your customers know your employees by name, then sending holiday greeting cards would be a bonus for you. In service-oriented companies, your staff has developed a sense of relationship with your customers, and it only makes sense to extend holiday greetings to your patrons during the winter season. With the overwhelming use of e-mail over traditional mail, people like to get something in their mailbox once in a while. People feel like they know their dentist, their mechanic, or their insurance provider personally. Sending holiday greeting cards is a must to keep up the personal relationship. If your business is more product-oriented, think about whether your customers have established a long-term personal relationship with your staff. Wal-Mart, for example, may be a store that many people shop at weekly, but shoppers don't expect a holiday greeting card from the chain. It's too big and impersonal, even with the greeters at the door. Getting a card from a large company where customers do not have personal relationships will not feel like getting a card from an old friend.   Are you planning a holiday bash this year? Make sure your guests save the date with festive holiday party invitations. Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect invites for your holiday happening. Thanksgiving It may not be traditional to send invitations to a Thanksgiving dinner, but why not set a new trend? Your family is probably tired of doing the same thing year after year, and the holiday could use a jump-start. Let family and friends know that this year will be different. Arouse their interest with a thanksgiving party invitation. Encourage them to dress up as if they lived on Plymouth Plantation. You don't have to just eat turkey and watch football, unless that's all you want to do! Some great ideas for motifs on Thanksgiving holiday invitations are pinecones, pumpkins, leaves, or a cornucopia. New Year's Eve If Christmas can claim to be the biggest holiday of the year, New Year's Eve is the biggest party night of the year. Whereas Christmas parties can generally be held at any date in December, New Year's parties only have one date to shoot for.   You confess you've always loved browsing through Victoria's Secret lingerie to give a little something sexy to the latest bride to be. Now you're the one planning the party, whether you're the bride, the maid of honor, or the posse of bridesmaids, invitations are the best place to start. First of all, decide whether you are throwing a traditional family bridal shower, a bachelorette party, or both. Many brides opt to have a tamer shower with the family, including her fiancé's mother, and then have a more intimate evening out with her closest friends. You could plan the shower and follow it by a night on the town, or you could have the two events on separate dates. If you're the maid of honor or the bridesmaids, make sure to discuss these options with the bride to see what she prefers. Spending hours with family may tire her out, and she won't be ready to dance all night at the local salsa club after the shower. Once you decide on the type of party you're throwing and the estimated number of guests, choose a location.   You can create your own stunning floral centerpiece and other arrangements to add a festive flair to your home this Thanksgiving. It's easier than you think. Not hosting Thanksgiving dinner? Why not surprise the cook with a beautiful floral gift and enjoy the look of surprise and amazement on their face when you say, "I made it myself!" Once you know a few of the basics, arranging flowers is quite simple. YES, even if you think you're not creative. You don't need a lot of costly equipment and materials, so it's not an expensive hobby. A good pair of cutting or pruning shears is a must. A sharp florist's or paring knife comes in handy for removing foliage and thorns from stems. Waterproof florist's tape is used a lot in floral work. Can't find it? Narrow cellophane tape will also work. Floral foam is a must for many arrangements and designs. It's available in most craft stores these days, even some of the discount department stores. Be sure you get the foam designed for fresh flowers, sometimes called wet foam, and not that made for silk or artificial flowers. Other than containers and flowers, that's about it: Cutting shears, small knife, tape, and floral foam. And what about containers? We can get into a rut of putting a fresh bouquet of flowers into those dirty, old vases underneath our kitchen sink. Get creative when looking for a floral vessel in your home. Recyclables like glass jars from your pasta sauce and pickles are great floral vessels, especially when grouped together. Mason jars are also a good choice. Tie a few strands of raffia around the neck, add a bunch of flowers of any kind and you have a lovely country design. Don't throw out your tin cans, either. They can be spray painted or covered with fabric, wallpaper, craft paper, jewels, seashells, etc. to transform them into amazing containers to display a bunch of gorgeous flowers. And they're watertight so you don't need any type of liner! And they're also free. Wouldn't that make a great craft project for the kids? Explore your cupboards for other intriguing vessels. Pitchers, soup tureens, serving bowls, trifle bowls all can be used as vases. Even small containers such as wine, brandy and martini glasses, tea cups, votive candle holders, custard cups, egg cups, salt and pepper shakers would all be perfect for floating a single bloom. As long as your flowers are in a water tight container, you can insert them into unexpected items like cornucopias, baskets, straw hats, festive gift boxes, boots, shoes, purses, baskets, wooden and metal trinket boxes, decorated terra cotta or other ceramic pots, watering cans, gift bags:be creative. Look around and see what you can transform into a flower holder! I've even used giant seashells. Start thinking outside the vase. Try experimenting with floral foam; you'll get hooked! It's so user-friendly and allows you to do so many things with flowers that you can't do by just inserting them into water.   Building Customer Loyalty with Holiday Greeting Cards

  It is that time of year again, the fourth quarter is underway and business and is in top gear trying to increase sales and meet quotas. For most businesses the last three months of the year can be very stressful and extremely fast pace while revenue and profit goals are in the process of being achieved. However in the wake of trying to gain new business and close final sales, don't let one of the years easiest and most cost effective marketing activities slip by without your involvement. Each year a few weeks before Christmas I receive a decent amount of holiday greeting cards from my vendors and other companies as to which I am a customer. Believe it or not, I am like many business professionals and consumers in that holiday greetings cards are one piece of marketing literature that I actually read and tends to make an impact on my buying decision. For example last year I had a contract with an IT company that did a good job with the services they provided for our company, however they had made a few large mistakes that cost our business both time and money. By the end of the year I had basically made my decision to terminate the contract and move forward with a different option. In the second week of December I received a holiday greeting card and cookies from this specific IT company. Within the card they noted the mistakes they had made along with apology hoping we could work together in the future, they even followed up with a nice phone call. Amazingly, the personal card, cookies and courtesy phone call was enough to change my mind, even though they dropped the ball. I now had the confidence they put their customers first and would fix any problem as a priority. This was enough reassurance that they were the right company for the job and starting fresh with a new IT was not the best option. I shared that story because it is very similar to countless others when companies capitalize on an opportunity to present a personal touch and a thank you. If you are smart you will send one to every past customer and every possible account you have in the pipeline. But please, if you go through the effort of sending out a holiday greeting card make sure it is personal. I know in the hustle of the last quarter time is rare and there are a million things to accomplish, yet a simple card with a personal touch will go a long way. It is just a simple way to show your customers that you appreciate their business. With a high chance they will read the card and remember you, this should be a no brainer. It is also a good idea if the funds are available to provide a small gift to your top customers. Do remember however, that government customers cannot accept gifts. So as this holiday season approaches don't miss out on an excellent marketing opportunity to build customer loyalty.

  Preservation of our oceans

  The seabed area of the Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and Mexico, over 2500 miles long and 800 miles wide is literally covered with Billions of nodules of metal. These natural resources provide a wealth of enormous proportion. These deepsea bed nodules are composed of approximately 33 percent metal ores, such as copper, cobalt, iron, magnesium, nickel, and various other ores. A major portion of this area falls well within our ISLE claim. When I first undertook this endeavor I had no idea of the political seriousness and sophisticated controversial and convoluted legal hornets nest I was about to get myself into. After about 6 months of intense research and sleepless nights, on something that started out as a rather humorous 'lark', I began to see the the many loopholes and overlooked areas surrounding this monumental issue. When trying to evaluate a situation I sometimes like to 'exaggerate' hypothetical theories and see how they appear. In this case my main question was "What would happen if suddenly all of the oceans of the earth were to evaporate. All answers to this one question led to one statement, there would be the largest land rush in the history of mankind. So why hasn't this happened in the Pacific ocean for example? Because of one main fact, the lack of technological ability to reap the rewards which lie at the oceans depths. So...the deepsea beds, for main stream humanoids were, as the old saying goes, "out of sight...out of mind". My original theory was that if everyone on earth had just one parcel of some of this 'property' then "we" as a people, not a controlling government, that all too frequently bend from the temptations of political lobbyism from multi-national corporations, could all retain what is rightfully ours, the Common Heritage of Mankind. Now, 25 years later, the ISLE claim still remains intact and has never been contested. Therefore I am now making available to 'everyone' who wants to join in and take a chance on a claim I made in 1975, by showing their support for this controversial issue. As the ISLE claim is approximately 6 million square miles, and available in one acre units, at 640 acres per square mile, there is enough for at least every family on this planet to have at least one piece of Earth's endangered Last Frontier. To this end, along with the parcels, I have created a few simple, but environmentally protective by-laws. The deeds are sold much like when you buy any property, with certain restrictions, these restrictions are designed to allow for protections and rejuvenation of the deepsea bed resources and the overall environment of the waterways surrounding them.

  Mission Point Resort Hotel

  Wedding receptions on Mackinac Island (sometimes referred to as Mackinaw Island) should be flawless. Most brides have their engagement at one of the many banquet halls in Mackinac Island because of the casual atmosphere and gorgeous surroundings. The last thing you should worry about would be the service that the hotel would give your wedding vendors and guests attending the celebration. Since my recent wedding reception at Mission Point Resort Hotel in Mackinac Island Michigan, I was very disappointed with the service and unnecessary stress I received.
  Mission Point Resort Hotel Personally, I have had the pleasure of entertaining thousands of wedding receptions here in Michigan. We take a very personalized approach when dealing with our clients and wedding vendors. From what I can recall, I have never experienced a situation so unpleasant when working with a so called reputable banquet facility. Mission Point Resort almost ruined my entire weekend by costing me hundreds in avoidable travel expenses and canceled meetings. I feel that our 200,000+ visitors a year might find the following Mission Point Resort Hotel Mackinac Island review beneficial. Vendors beware; Mission Point Resort in Mackinac Island is a headache for dealing with logistics. Before arriving on the Island, our client told us that the company equipment would be delivered directly to the Summit Room. Our equipment was left outside in a damp environment (can you imagine if their negligence would have affected your reception). Since we were not allowed to use the elevator, we had to carry the equipment to the room ourselves. The assistance that we were guaranteed was not available and after talking with the staff, they were not forthcoming with help. Mission Point Resort Hotel in Mackinac Island Michigan is Unorganized One word for Mission Point Resort Banquet Hall is unorganized. Honestly, there is no room to drop the ball on a couple who are investing time and money into your facility for their reception. One of my main concerns when dealing with the wedding reception was the logistics of our equipment. I remember talking with several employees and getting several conflicting answers. One employee told me we would have to come back to the hotel in the morning JUST to carry the equipment onto a dolly to be transported to the dock. Another employee told me that the bell staff would take care of this entire inconvenience for us. Since he was a representative of the company we took his word for it, knowing everything was handled. We were prepared to dock the Arnold Line ferry at 3pm the following day. I had a business meeting in Detroit at 8pm with a bride so our equipment was already suppose to be in Mackinac City. At 2:55 I decided to make the phone call to Mission Point to make sure that our equipment was delivered to the dock on time. And guess what... the equipment was never delivered! Why should I have to worry about this? I was told by two different employees it would be there at 2pm. My company name and phone number were placed on every bag. They had two hours to reach me if there was any issue, no follow-up procedure was done! If I would have went on the ferry, Mission Point Resort would have: A.) made me take the last ferry back across to the island my equipment was still on
  B.) walk 20 minutes across the island ONLY to carry it onto a dolly since it was an insurance liability
  C.) since we would have missed the final 4pm ferry, we would of had to spend money on an over night hotel/bed & breakfast
  D.) cancel my meeting with my bride in Detroit at 8pm
  Why is this considered an insurance liability, when you can take care of my equipment in transit between the dock and your hotel? For your info, we had to wait several hours for the next ferry which cost me my meeting with my bride... thanks Mission Point. Manager James Salem One person that could have rectified this entire situation was Mr. James Salem (aka Jimmy or Jim). Manager James Salem could care less about my dilemma. I made attempts to contact him about what I should do. Jimmy Salem of Mission Point Resort was very reluctant to providing solutions to the problem. My understanding from our conversation was that if I was a guest he would of helped me. Since I was a wedding vendor Jim did not have time. This very impersonal approach towards weddings is the complete opposite of professional integrity. If Jimmy treats wedding vendors like this, how do you imagine he would treat guests on your special day? I think Mr. James Salem needs to go back to customer service school :( Guest Review Mackinac Island Mission Point Resort Hotel We were told from locals on Mackinac Island that the service we encountered was not uncommon for Mission Point Resort Hotel. Bags are constantly lost and damaged when falling off their shuttle. Guests have often missed their ferry due to lost luggage at docks and bags left behind at the hotel. Guest missing ferry rides are forced to find alternate solutions. This includes having to stay an additional night on the island which completely screws up someone's vacation. How would you feel if this happened to you after trusting them with your personal belongings? No bride, vendor, or guest should have to deal with the confusion that Jimmy Salem put me through. Bottom line Book your wedding reception at ANY place besides Mission Point Resort Hotel in Mackinac Island Michigan. I would never treat a bride or wedding professional in any way comparable to their standards. They care about your money and not your memories.

Tid-bits from societies around the world Color, style and ceremonial importance of the gown can depend on the religion and culture of the wedding participants. The styles and colors of wedding dresses have varied according to the fashions of the time, and the circumstances of the wedding. The wedding dress in several Middle Eastern and Eastern European cultures was highly elaborate, and regarded as a means of displaying the bride's dowry. The color blue has been connected to purity. Many wedding dresses in China are colored red, the traditional color of good luck. In northern parts of India the traditional color of women's wedding garments is red, a color symbolizing auspiciousness. South Indian weddings traditionally use white or cream colored saris. Green is an unfortunate color because of its associations with fairies, and its wearing is also said to fore-tell a change into clothes of mourning. Purple is out because it is seen as a mourning color, one favored by widows from their second year of bereavement onward. In modern western societies almost anything passes for a wedding dress however, in times of old, traditional wedding dresses were flowing gowns usually white in color. Semi-ancient Biblical Influence I suggest to you that there is a far deeper and more meaningful understanding of the color of a bride's gown than luck, or to speak of one's cultural, or financial standing. The major influence of wedding gowns being primarily white has sprung forth from two sources. The one as old as godliness itself, the other as old as the New Testament writings—One: that white represents the purity and innocence of a virgin woman. In fact, in Godey's Lady's Book, 1849, this statement was printed: "Custom has decided, from the earliest ages, that white is the most fitting hue, whatever may be the material. It is an emblem of the purity and innocence of girlhood, and the unsullied heart she now yields to her chosen one." Beyond these considerations the writings of the New Testament Bible have influenced societies, suggesting that the Bride of Christ, (a metaphorical term used to identify that chosen group of believers who will be deemed a fitting eternal partner to the Lord Jesus) is to be dressed in white. The color white testifying of the righteousness of the saints. Therefore, among God fearing people though the generations it has been their aim to copy this pattern when they have given their daughters in marriage. The question may be asked by a bride to be, "If I have not kept myself pure in the past, but have now confessed my sin, and have turned to God, can I still be married in white?" The answer is most certainly yes. For the blood of Jesus covers all sin. Therefore, all that are found in Him are white and pure in His eyes irrespective of what their past's have been. Semi-Modern Western Influences The Victorian era wisely placed a heavy emphasis on feminine purity and chastity, and since white represented these attributes, it was considered a most suitable color for a bride. The reality that the practices and affairs of leading people in society can have tremendous influence on cultures is seen in the marriage of Queen Victoria to her cousin Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840. It likely having more influence on the color of choice for wedding gowns than any other modern event. Queen Victoria put the wheels in motion by marrying in white. Though brides continued to wed in gowns of different colors, this single event has been seen to set the modern western standard of white being seen as the color of choice for weddings. The Industrial Revolution also brought about change. By the 1890's, and the arrival of the department store, almost every woman could realize her dream of being married in a "new" wedding dress. When the Depression hit, brides made do with their "best" dress for the wedding. Because of economic restraints many brides were known to have dyed their white wedding dress a different color after the wedding. Thus making it suitable for everyday use. During WWII, women considered it their duty to give up the elaborations of the traditional wedding, many times opting for quick and easy impromptu services before their husband was taken off by the military. After the World War economic times changed offering to women the cash needed to again experience more elaborate ceremonies.

  Halloween : A Time for Great Goulish Events

  Halloween conjures up fantastic memories. A time of year where goulish tricks and delicious treats are acceptable. As a child, convincing mother to give me candy coated chocolates, lollipops, gummies and other nutritional items was always a struggle most of the time, however, when Halloween rolled around, the game had completely changed. It was a ripe opportunity to stockpile as many treats as humanly possible and without having to share. And all one had to do was dress up in some outrageous outfit and utter 3 words. Trick or Treat. And yahtzee, the loot was yours! It was sheer magic and a racket that was just too good to pass up. And your success was dependent on your customer and the planning that went into it. Wrapping your body in a sheet with two holes cut out for eyes would not ensure a massive stockpile of candy. However, a well thought out and designed Superman custome could surely save the day. As Halloween approached and Fall was slowly slipping away, the excitement would gain momentum as you knew that the Holiday season was all in front of you. What better way to kick-start the Holiday season than by planning and preparing for a Halloween assault. As the years have passed, the desire for candy and dress-up has diminished but the excitement for Halloween has not. Some might say the last chance to enjoy things going on around town before the winter sets in. If you live in Los Angeles or Houston this might not be an issue but the excitement still remains due to the sheer insanity built up around this holiday. Most big cities have a tendency to be a litte freakish most of the year, however, come Halloween, it really heats up with great things to do in the city. I have traded in my passion and pursuit of candied treats for a more mature endeavour. Finding great deals on great events for Halloween. Adult treats. And StubDog.com has made it much easier for me to do so. One great event that always seems to pop around this time is screenings on the big screen of old classic scary movies such as the Bride of Frankenstein. One of my favorites. Everybody remembers Elsa Lanchester's electrified hairdo, along with the sinister hiss that ends the movie. But there are so many other reasons to revere and appreciate James Whale's 1935 masterpiece. Whale seized the artificiality of Hollywood soundstage filmmaking and ran with it as few directors ever have, before or since. From his remarkable deep-focus tableaux in front of painted backdrops to his 'Rembrandt lighting,' in which a face is illuminated by a single bright light just outside the frame, Whale imported the innovations of German expressionist filmmaking and wove them into his peculiarly memorable tapestry. Another treat or offer is "The Raven", starring horror movie greats Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, and based from a poem by Edger Allen Poe. Horror film festivals such as Screamfest LA are a far cry from the classics and are aimed at discovering new blood in this genre. Blood and Gore are brought to the big screen in a way never seen before and are sure to have attendee on the edge of there seat if not under it. Another favorite event surfacing at this time are walking and bus tours. The tours are usually of houses, gruesome crime scenes, graveyards, broomstick adventures, cemeteries and other haunted locations. Each Halloween season, Esotouric offers a most disturbing Crime Bus tour, Halloween Horrors with Crimebo the Clown. That's right hosted by clown. Too demented. This four-hour jaunt spans Downtown, Hollywood, Echo Park and the Eastern San Fernando Valley while offering a grimly hilarious look at more than two dozen peculiar and long-forgotten crimes, including several with a Halloween theme. Vintage crime scene photos are featured, with passengers urged to BYOBB (bring your own barf bag), always a smart idea when Crimebo the Crime Clown is in attendance. Digging into the archives to uncover such terrible tales as the lady dope dealer left with her eyes gouged out on Echo Park's Lovers' Lane, the one-time silent screen star who died alone and was gnawed on by her doggy, the trick or treat murder of the handsome hairstylist, an astrologer and a palm reader who didn't foresee being killed by the women they loved, Silver Lake's exploding gun shop, the poignant death of the bravest dog in Hollywood, plus visits to Bela Lugosi's home, Crimebo's tales of Halloween celebrations gone terribly wrong and history of holiday pranks in Los Angeles, plus light-hearted oddities like the mysterious midnight disappearance of thousands of cucumbers from a Hollywood farm. Amazing! This just goes to show you that you do not have to be a kid to enjoy everything Halloween has to offer. There are plenty of treats for adults to enjoy. Trick or Treat.
