Special and General Revelations

Though almost all religions be when the existence of God, most of them teach that this infinite God does not communicate with man, and also that this God is not interested in direct communication with man. Further, highly philosophical religions like Hinduism maintain that the Ultimate One is an impersonal cosmic force which does not need to communicate directly with mankind, and which does not in reality have any direct communication with mankind. The Bible on the other hand maintains that God is a person, very much interested in communication with the his creation, and who is very active in communicating divine truths with mankind. The Bible also makes it clear that God communicates with mankind in three different ways: through general revelation, through specific revelation, and through his son Lord Jesus Christ. Each one of these revelations has specific characteristics, and these characteristics are clearly explained in the Scriptures. The General revelation: God has made the universe in such a way, and has left his imprint upon the creation in such ways, that any mature person looking objectively at the universe will automatically come to realize the existence of an all powerful creator behind the creation. This is called God-consciousness, and the general revelation is powerful enough to make any honest person fully conscious that there's a God behind all of this. General revelation does not give detailed information about God, His full character, the history of creation, or information related to the developments related to mankind such as temptation and fall. Further, general revelation does not give specific information about the way of salvation. General revelation serves only for the purpose of attracting man to his creator, and it is expected that this revelation would prompt every God fearing man to desire to know full truth about got. Once this desire is manifested in the hearts of any inquirer, it is God's responsibility to furnish full information about Himself and also about His plan of salvation to mankind. Many religions contain religious and philosophical truths deduced from human observation of the universe. While this kind of a deduction might contain some useful information, it is never sufficient to know any appreciable detail about the person of God, His mode of creation, or things related to incarnation, crucification, or salvation by grace through faith. All specific information about creation, God's attribute, man's temptation, fall, promise about a Savior, incarnation, and Christ's sacrifice on the cross, etc. have to come from Specific or Special Revelation. Specific revelation is found only in the 66 books of the Old and New Testament, collectively called the Bible. Special Revelation: though General Revelation gives man enough information about creation, providence, goodness, wisdom, and power of God, none of these things is sufficient either individually or collectively to bring man to the knowledge or salvation. This is the reason why God had to give Special Revelation in the form of what is now called the Bible. The 66 books that form the Old and the New testament have come to us through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. These 66 books are totally free from error and also completely authoritative. The books called the Apocrypha have not been written by divine inspiration. on the contrary, they have been produced by crafty men who wrote books containing a mixture of history, theology, philosophy, and a lot of totally erroneous information all intermingled with each other. The main purpose behind writing them was to impose and propagate totally erroneous human philosophies in the name of divine revelation. These documents where never part of the Old testament or the New Testament, but were forcibly added to the canon of the bible by the Roman Catholic church. These books have no divine authority at all. The authority of the Scriptures does not depend upon the testimony of any human being, church, our church council. On the contrary, it depends upon the testimony of God. From time to time God had been testifying to what books have been inspired by the Holy Spirit, and such testimony has been received by the children of God both during the time of the Old testament as well as during the New testament times. The entire counsel of God concerning all things that are necessary for God's glory, man's salvation, and a holy living are given in the Scriptures with sufficient clarity. If a new issue arises, on which the Scriptures is silent, a solution to the problem can be obtain through a process of scriptural deduction based upon information that is already available there. No human being is authorized to add anything to the revealed word of God, and no one is given the authority to annul anything contained in the Scriptures. Such authority has not been given to any human being, theologian, church, or church councils.

Although the same Bible verse from Matthew 28:19 may be used during both baptisms and christenings, the ceremonies do have different feels to them. A baptism is generally less formal and liturgical than a christening ceremony. In recent times, child baptisms have started taking place in the midst of a church service on Sunday, rather than on a separate date. Answering the following questions will help you start planning your child's baptism service. When should the service take place? Before deciding if the baptism should take place during a Sunday service or on a separate date, think about how many people you plan to invite who do not regularly attend your church. If it's less a dozen close friends and relatives, you're probably better off inviting them to attend the church service in order to witness your child's baptism. If you plan to invite a large number of guests that will not be able to fit in the church along with the regular members, then you should plan your event at a separate time. Discuss options with your pastor or minister to see when he is available and when the church hall is available for your function. If you plan to invite guests from out of town, it's best to schedule the date for a weekend and send out baptism invitations at least one month in advance. How old should my child be? This question really depends on how you, personally, see baptism and where your home church stands on the issue. Many denominations will only allow children to be baptized when they are old enough to issue a statement of faith and a personal testimony of their relationship with God. Other denominations will baptize infants and toddlers whose parents are the initiators of the rite. Should I send out invitations? If you're planning your event outside of a regular Sunday service, or if you're inviting people who do not regularly attend your church, you'd do best to send out baptism invitations. While christening invitations are usually white and display a more formal tone, baptism invitations can be playful and even sport a photo of the child who is to be baptized. Symbols of the cross or guardian angels can add some color and detail to your invitation cards. Adding a photo of your child is a sure-fire way to make this event personal for guests and give them a memoir they can cherish.

To what should we liken this generation? To what shall we compare it to? America of late is like Nabal of old who had crops and herds that God blessed so that he was very prosperous. He was, however, an arrogant fool who neither thanked or honored God for His blessing, nor did he honor David who, with his four hundred men, camped near Nabal's estate guarding it from thieves and raiders. After harvest, David sent messengers to suggest a payment be given for their services. Nabal was drunk and foolishly laughed at the request. Later, upon hearing this, David became incensed. He and his soldiers lighting upon their mounts vowed that not a male person belonging to Nabal would live to see another day. Nabal had a wise and beautiful wife named Abigail who saw what was coming down. Knowing the reputation of David, she moved with fear and quickly prepared much provision in carts and on donkey's backs and met David on the way. Bowing humbly, she confessed her husband's sin and folly, pleading for the lives of all the men in her husband's estate. David moved by her beauty, wisdom, faith and humility, received her gifts and reproof. He turned and went his way thanking God for her. Nabal is America, prosperous but arrogant and foolish. Let us turn to God from: divorce, adultery, teen sex (fornication), pornography, unfair taxation, abortion, the self will of evolution ism, feminism expressed in numerous ways, lewd and violent television and movies. All of which total up to the rejection of His Son from Heaven. Of this generation, it is true what Cotton Mather, a puritan preacher, said of his generation Religion begat prosperity, and the daughter devoured the mother. America, do you not understand that it was God who birthed you? It was the Almighty that brought forth understanding and conviction so that our national fathers established a government allowing for civil liberties greater than any other country in all of history? Do we not understand that it was He who gave us this portion of the North American continent with its rich resources and beauty? It was He who provided the strength, cunning and wisdom to bring forth prosperity. Do we not understand that it was He who allowed the great and terrible Civil War to purge us of our arrogance and oppression over those who were held in slavery? They which we held in dishonor, in murder, having stolen their dignity and the wealth of their labor. Why did He do these things? That we might be a nation filled with His light, a beacon to the other nations of the world, testifying to the majesty of His wisdom, protection, and provisions, the which, He has bestowed upon us by His grace. We have become a people steeped in our arrogance, self-willed, and rebellious. A people who throw off the restraint of God on every hand, a people who revel in darkness and think we should be both blessed and honored because of it. Such is our extreme confusion. We would do well to follow after the scriptural admonition. (James 4:6-10) God resisteth the proud and giveth grace to the humble. Submit yourselves, therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn and weep. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up. Too Much Garbage in the Mountains

When I was younger, I recall often seeing glass fragments and aluminum cylinders emptied of their contents, I would ask my father about the reasons why people would do such things. His reply was grave and brief. It went something like this, "some people just don't respect the land out here, and it's a real shame!" I won't ever forget these words, as they have forged an everlasting memory of environmental preservation. For the selfish fools who do not consider the outdoors significant, wonderful, and necessary for our most fundamental survival demands, i say, "just stay home!" My childhood camping trips are all pretty well remembered, so I recall that there was little litter strewn across most camping areas. Maybe the forest service personnel had been ultra proficient at their campsite maintenance duties. In addition to that, perhaps most of the users of the spaces which we stayed at had been descent enough to burn anything that they did not take out of there. I, however, do not condone putting anything in a campfire which is not known to be safe to us and our environment! One of the saddest things is to be walking around a mountain ridge in a placid pristine setting, past a bunch of undisturbed wildlife, then have the feeling come to an abrupt halt. This being due to to the sudden jarring discovery that some irresponsible person has, or people have, packed up and left, failing to take their waste.. Fortunately, not everyone engages in this brand of insensitive behavior though, I believe that if everyone were to go outdoors, I mean really spend some time out there and see what it is all about, that many opinions would change. I picture most of those who litter as either very occasional outdoor travelers,who foolishly deem nature irrelevant or ones who grew up ignorantly not caring where to put their trash. Few long-period campers, hikers, and hunters that I've ever known, met, seen, or even heard of, treat mother nature with anything other than an undying devotion and respect! Everyone else should follow the well mapped out examples of these fellow men and women! It is true that, in the absence of efficient frequent roadside pick-up programs, that within the vicinity of the main highways, or primary roads, one can easily spot illegally discarded contents. Farther back, away from the route often traveled, however, the presence of junk piles is definitely more rare, as most people which dispense trash in inappropriate areas are often too lazy to go back into there in the first place. This results in a sort of natural balance between areas wrongly influenced by the metaphorical, and literal, human footprint, and those devoid of it.. It is still too bad that there are those who give little thought to the limitless value of lakes, rivers, viewpoints, and even beaches. Fortunately, many areas have become more protected in the last few years. I've actually noticed improvements, such as fewer of the spread out alcohol container shards which I had mentioned before.More begs to be accomplished though. There is nothing like walking five or ten miles deep into the countryside. Nothing else is like the cool, or in some cases warm, air. The breeze hitting one's face when atop a ridge line or walking through a remote canyon or pass is just utterly terrific! These sensations I wish everyone could feel. This is provided, of course, that everyone is prepared to be as hospitable to the Earth as she unconditionally has always been, to us!

Please Litter - Sarcasm

Like I said before, rather harshly, be my guest and leave your trash everywhere you are willing to, then depart. I invite anyone to do this. Why would I say this? I was being very sarcastic of course. The answer is simple, anyone which does so will reveal themselves eventually as scum bags that cannot appreciate nature and will face stiff fines or even imprisonment. The government wants to know who you are so you can be marred by the experience, and avoid further mistakes in the future.Many people despise a high litter rate, or what could be termed, "ill-litter-rate", in addition to the govt., and want to see it end. Let me revise my first paragraph; go ahead and "try" to illegally dispose of your trash in areas which it shouldn't be, and see if you don't get caught! You may get away once, but you will not every time. Instead a course of action which is recommended would be to act in accordance with responsibility and make an adult decision, to pick up after yourselves! This sounds much like the better option to me. To all those people already paying heed to nature's beautiful bounty, I applaud you all for your efforts and sentiments. It is often too bad, I feel, when certain dirt roads have been closed off due to reckless activities by "off-road enthusiast" of the wrong kind. I also have noticed usage fees for some areas have gone up in price, no doubt as a result of increased littering rates. Everyone else pays for the foolish selfish acts of a relative few; how absurd. That is ,however, often how our society functions! I have observed stepped up presences from the US Forest Service and the Game and Fish Department in my home state of Arizona. I understand that this beefed up outdoor "security net" will be continued to be improved upon. In time, those deciding to endanger life in the forests, deserts, grasslands, and other regions will think again, or get into a lot of trouble. Besides, junk on the ground looks ugly! One day, those rouge abusers of the outdoor environments will all be discouraged or caught in the very acts which have been costing others money and time, (quick backroads to destinations). Until then keep in mind that those believing themselves to be able to continuously evade the US law enforcement system and that think that they are outside the bounds of observing the natural "law of the wilderness", will soon enough become a waning breed. I would be enthralled to again see many of the locations I walked as a young boy, be returned to their original condition, for the roadsides to lack any trash, and the local plants and animals be paid reverence to, but the small incremental improvements which I have spoken of are a breath of fresh air into my lungs. It is time to now exhale and look down the meandering, yet unbroken, road to a full environmental recovery!

Writing is a long and arduous process that most students fear and hate throughout their whole academic careers. Many put off starting the writing process for as long as they can almost as if it may go away if they ignore it long enough, but in the end they have to face it. A writer must put in hours, days, and weeks of research and planning go into gathering all the information and planning out a well thought argument finally lead up to the completion of a draft. At this point it seems like the writing process might finally be coming to an end, but the reality is that the possibly most painful part of the writing process is still yet to be done, editing and revising. I am sure plenty of people blow off editing or cheapen it to simply spell checking and grammar checking their initial draft. Personally, I know in my days at school I would constantly use my first draft as the final draft with the addition of a few grammatical revisions or two. Proper revision however, is an incredibly long and time consuming process, but it is necessary to get the best out of the piece being written. If it was not so important editors would not be able to make a living. A good comparison is to compare it to coding on a computer. It is not enough to simply write out a program, but it must be properly debugged for it to efficiently or at all for that matter. Although it is good to give your own written work a thorough look through, I feel that the best way is to get a new set of eyes to look through your written piece. Sometimes a piece of writing will completely make sense to writer and nonsense to outsiders. As a result a writer editing through his own work will often overlook a lot of areas that may seem clear to him but would bring about questions or confusion with many readers. If possible get many people to critically read through your written work and at various stages of your writing process. Do it until you, and your "editors", are completely happy with your work. Now, for those that are editing the paper, it is important that you read with a critical eye. It is all too easy to read through a piece and simply blow through errors that we think are acceptable or we attribute to the writer's style. Do this and I guarantee that the writer will be upset at the lack of criticism his work receives. An editor really needs to try and work his opinion in on anything and everything in the paper that seems even the slightest bit off, even if it is an area that is already good, but could be better. Any constructive criticism that can be offered in relation to the writer's work really benefits the writer because it offers insight into what thoughts and concerns future readers may have regarding the written piece. Having this insight gives the writer a chance to clear up any unintended confusion and also a chance to add in something to address questions or arguments that may commonly pop up from the written work. We may not like it, but editing is really what makes our writing professional, presentable, or in some cases readable. So get editing.

Most people hate writing essays - and it shows. The typical student groans when one is assigned, puts it off until the last minute, and ultimately produces a borderline C/C+ paper that will soon be forgotten. But with just a little more effort and enthusiasm (and a few handy tricks), that run-of-the-mill essay can become an A+ paper your professor will actually remember and compliment you on. Wouldn't that be nice? Wouldn't you rather hand in your grade-determining paper with complete confidence, instead of nail-biting fear? Then pay attention, because the following essay writing tips can make all the difference! The first tip is to write like you are explaining your topic to a completely ignorant person. Not ignorant in the sense of stupid, but in the sense of knowing absolutely nothing about your topic. Try to write as though you are a failure if the reader puts down your paper without understanding your topic. What this will do is force you to put things in their logical order, explaining earlier concepts first and building later concepts on top of them in a straightforward way. For example, let's assume the reader will be forever ignorant of the Civil War unless you write a good paper on it. You will be sure to emphasize how the Confederate states firing on Fort Sumter forced Lincoln to retaliate. Furthermore, everything you explain from that point will make sense in light of the earlier material you covered. This basic start-to-finish clarity is the bedrock of a good, enjoyable, A+ essay. The second tip is to integrate your writing. In other words, your essay should have a main point that is obvious to the reader both while reading it and at the end. Most college essays read like a mindless regurgitation of disconnected facts, figures, and dates. Biographical essays devote the first several pages to undiscriminated trivia about the person's upbringing, education, and childhood hobbies, regardless of how (or even if) they tie in to the overall point being made. This is not the way to write a good essay! What you should instead do is decide, before writing a single word, what the point of your essay is. What one or two things do you want to be crystal clear to everyone who reads the essay? Once you know what this is, let it be your lighthouse, your guidepost, for every decision that follows. Should you include this or that detail? Should this go here, or should I introduce it later? Would it confuse the reader to mention this? Whenever one of these questions arises, just relate it back to the main point of the essay. Just following this one principle almost forces your essay to be better and more enjoyable to read. You should also strive to connect ideas, facts, and statements within the essay through your use of language. Many good essays begin sentences with phrases like "because of this", "therefore", "as a result", "taking all of this into account", and the like. Phrases like these show that you have a considered understanding of your topic and how all the different things you are writing about relate to each other. A third tip is to take a bold stance or opinion within the essay. Not every essay asks for your opinion, but many do, and the worst thing you can do is write a fence-sitting, watered down, don't-offend-anyone suck up piece. These are by far the most boring essays to read, and writing one is a sure bet to put your teacher to sleep. They would much rather you take an interest in the material and write passionately about how it makes you feel. Most students do not do this, opting instead to regurgitate facts without evaluating them or offering any of their own analysis. Don't do this! By all means, support your opinions with facts and logic. That's what you're in college to learn how to do! But don't assume that the requirement to be factual and logical means you can't also take a stand. A crisply argued essay or paper is a rare treat for professors these days, and most of them will reward you with a very high grade. If all of this sounds overwhelming, there is an easy way to bring it all into focus. Read some great essays. Go to a library and seek out essays from the masters, like Milton Friedman, Martin Luther King, Thomas Jefferson, or Ralph Waldo Emerson. While you are reading, keep the three tips we discussed in mind. Do their excellent essays cover the subject in logical order (earlier concepts first, with later ones to follow?) The Romance Scam often involves the old "Nigerian scam" methodology that was once popular through email. It's simply a new twist on an old con. There are several things that may happen. You may receive a box of merchandise they claim they can't ship where they need to. They may even send you a check that they can't cash for some reason. They will likely want you to cash this at your bank, withdraw a certain amount, and send it back. The problem with all of this is that these are often felony acts. The check you receive will not be good. The packages you receive may be stolen merchandise. The gifts they send may be purchased with a stolen credit card. There are reports that people have been arrested at the bank when attempting to cash these checks. If you don't encounter any issues and can withdraw the funds from the check to send to your "boy/girlfriend" you will be responsible for paying it all back. Since most of these individuals work from a foreign country, there is no way to arrest, convict, or charge them legally. Since everything they tell you will be fraudulent, you will not have any insight to their true identity. If you find someone and the situation is promising, do a background check. Monitor the situation as closely as possible. You may be emotionally vulnerable, but scammers do not care. They will use everything you tell them against you. If you find yourself in this situation and haven't taken any precautions, immediately go to your area police. If you live in a rural area, go to the State Police as they will likely have far more resources to help you.
